Where to go in June: long light and June events

Long June daylight in Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, Finland and Estonia, and late-June festivals in Sweden, Peru and England.

June is the month of long daylight in northern Europe. In Iceland the sun sets late and the light lingers through the night around midsummer. Ireland and Scotland have some of their longest days in June. In Finland and Estonia, white nights keep the sky light after dark for weeks around the solstice. If you want evenings outdoors and more hours to see the countryside, these are the places to weigh first.

June also brings large events. Midsummer is celebrated in Sweden on the Friday between June 19 and 25, Inti Raymi takes place in Cusco, Peru on June 24, and Glastonbury Festival in England is usually held in late June. Check the dates for each event before you choose a city, because crowds and transport change around them. Once the dates are set, pick where to stay and how to reach it, then book.
