Nadi is the third-largest city in Fiji, on the western side of Viti Levu, the main island. Most air travelers to Fiji land at Nadi International Airport, the country's largest airport, about 9 km from the town. The capital, Suva, lies on the opposite side of the island. Tourism and sugar cane are the main economic activities. Nadi is pronounced roughly 'nan-DEE'.
Its people are mixed: Indo-Fijians, Indigenous Fijians, other Asian residents and many foreign tourists. A large Indo-Fijian community makes Nadi a center of Hinduism in Fiji, and Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, described as the largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere, draws pilgrims. Nadi has the highest concentration of hotels and motels in Fiji, so accommodation choice is wide. The climate is tropical and hot all year, with a dry season in July and August. Nadi gets much less rain than Suva.

Is it worth staying in Nadi?
For a night or two, yes, mostly for convenience. Stay longer only for day trips such as the Sabeto mud pools or the Garden of the Sleeping Giant.
How do I get from Nadi Airport to Port Denarau?
By taxi or a resort transfer, about 20–30 minutes. Some ferry operators include hotel pickups in Nadi and Denarau with the boat ticket.
When is cyclone season in Fiji?
From about November to April. Storms are not constant, but boats and flights can be cancelled at short notice, so buy insurance that covers delays.
What is there to do in Nadi besides the airport?
The Sri Siva Subramaniya temple, the Sabeto mud pools and hot springs, and the Garden of the Sleeping Giant fill a spare day. A half day covers the temple and the garden; the mud pools suit an afternoon.
Should I stay in Denarau or in Nadi town?
Denarau suits an early boat because the ferries leave from its marina, but it is a resort enclave with higher prices. The town side and Wailoaloa Beach cost less and need a taxi on the morning you sail.
