Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa. German citizens can enter Ireland with a passport or a national ID card.

The Auswärtiges Amt lists a passport, provisional passport, ID card, provisional ID card and child passport as valid entry documents, which must be valid at entry and exit. Ireland is outside Schengen and does not take part in the EES. An ID card does not work for onward travel to the UK, including Northern Ireland, which also needs a UK ETA.
