Do US passport holders need a visa for Ireland?

Covers 11 passports and 80 destinations. Rules older than 30 days are flagged for re-check.

Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa. US passport holders visit Ireland visa-free as tourists.

The Irish Immigration Service lists the United States of America among the nationalities that do not need a visa. It describes a holiday visit as under 90 days, and the immigration officer stamps your passport on arrival with the date you must leave, up to a maximum of 3 months. Ireland is outside Schengen and does not take part in the EES. The US State Department's page (Last Updated March 26, 2026) is consistent with the above. It asks for a passport valid for the duration of your stay and 1 blank page per stamp.
