Cádiz is a port city in Andalucía, southwest Spain, on a narrow peninsula that runs out into the Atlantic. Phoenician settlers founded it, and its harbor has handled trade for centuries. Most of the historic center sits inside the sea walls, where streets are narrow, building fronts are white and most sights are within easy walking distance. The cathedral, with its large dome, is the best-known landmark in the old town.
Plan one or two nights for the old town, or stay longer for beaches and a slower pace of tapas and sea views. La Caleta, a small beach beside the old fort, is a short walk from the center. The Carnival, usually held in February, is one of the largest in Spain, with music and costumed groups in the streets. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable months for walking. Trains run from Seville, and the sherry towns across the bay are an easy day trip.

Is Cádiz worth visiting?
Yes. The compact old town, seawalls, beaches and seafood make it one of the easiest cities to enjoy in southern Spain.
How many days do you need in Cádiz?
One full day covers the old town and La Caleta. Two days lets you add a bay ferry or a sherry day.
Can you visit Cádiz as a day trip from Seville?
Yes, by train in under two hours each way. Stay a night if you want an evening on the seawall and a slower morning.
Is Cádiz good for beaches?
Yes. La Caleta is the city beach, and longer sand beaches lie along the Atlantic side. Swimming is best from June to September.
When is Cádiz Carnival?
In February, with dates that vary. It is one of the biggest in Spain, so book rooms months ahead or choose a quieter month.
