Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi

Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi

A hill village on the Sorrentine Peninsula with views over two gulfs, Capri and the Li Galli islets, and marked paths to Crapolla bay.

Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi is a hill village on the Sorrentine Peninsula in the Province of Naples, and the largest of the hamlets that belong to Massa Lubrense. Its name means upon two gulfs, and the setting explains it: the village sits between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. The Benedictine nuns’ monastery on Il Deserto, near the village centre, gives views of both gulfs and over Sorrento. The village lies on the lower slopes of the Monti Lattari, fairly close to the Amalfi Coast.

The village church, Santa Maria delle Grazie, has a 1600s altar of mother-of-pearl and lapis lazuli by Dionisio Lazzari. The hill above, Monte Sireniano, is linked to a cult of the sirens and an ancient temple, and Greek settlers built a necropolis there. Below the village, Crapolla is a natural fjord, reached by boat or by a long footpath of hundreds of steps. Sorrento is about 6 km away, Positano about 17 km and Naples about 57 km.
