Milan is the capital of Lombardy in northern Italy and the country's second-largest city after Rome. It is Italy's main economic and financial center and is known worldwide for fashion, industrial design, art and opera. The Duomo, the cathedral dedicated to the Nativity of Mary, is the city's symbol, and its gilt bronze Madonnina stands on the highest spire.

Plan the trip around landmarks, shopping and food. Leonardo's The Last Supper hangs in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and Teatro alla Scala is one of the world's most famous opera houses. Walk between Sforza Castle and Parco Sempione, then spend the evening in the Navigli canal district, where bars and restaurants stay lively. Spring and autumn are pleasant, with temperatures of about 10 to 20 °C. Summers are hot and humid, with peaks above 35 °C, and winters are cold and often foggy.

Milan FAQ

How far ahead should I book the Last Supper?

As soon as the three-month block with your dates goes on sale on the official site. Slots sell out within days; last-minute tickets are rare.

How many days do you need in Milan?

Two days covers the Duomo, the Last Supper, Brera and an evening in Navigli. Add a day for Lake Como or Bergamo.

Malpensa or Linate?

Linate is closer to the center and has the M4 metro line. Malpensa handles most long-haul flights and has the Malpensa Express train.

Is Milan worth visiting?

Yes, for the Duomo rooftop, the Last Supper, design and fashion districts, and as a rail hub for the lakes. It rewards two days; if you only want classic sights, it is less essential than Rome or Florence.

Can you see Milan in one day?

A tight day covers the Duomo and its terraces, the Galleria and a walk to Brera. The Last Supper needs a booked slot, so check availability before you plan the rest.
