Antibes is a seaside city on the French Riviera in the Alpes-Maritimes department of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, southeastern France, between Cannes and Nice. Phocaeans from Massalia founded it as a Greek colony named Antipolis, probably at the foot of the rock where the old town stands today. Pablo Picasso lived in the Château Grimaldi for six months in 1946, and the château is now the Picasso Museum.
Port Vauban, Europe's largest yachting harbor, sits on the site of ancient Antipolis and has more than 2,000 moorings. Antibes and Juan-les-Pins share 48 beaches along about 25 km of coast, and the Eilenroc Gardens give views across the bay. Trains from the central station reach Nice, Cannes and Marseille. About 28 days a year reach above 30 °C, and outdoor concerts are common in summer, when the Jazz à Juan festival has run in July since 1960.

Is Antibes worth visiting?
Yes, especially for a calmer Riviera base. It has an old town, a market, a Picasso museum and easy trains to Nice and Cannes, with less crowding than Nice in high season.
How many days do you need in Antibes?
One day covers the old town, market and ramparts. Two or three days works if you use it as a Riviera base with day trips by train.
Is Antibes better than Nice?
Antibes is smaller and calmer, with a village feel. Nice has more sights, flights and nightlife. Many travelers stay in Antibes and visit Nice for a day.
How do you get from Nice airport to Antibes?
Take a bus or taxi along the coast, or a tram and train combination. The trip is about 20 minutes by road. Check operators for current routes and timetables.
Can you swim in Antibes?
Yes. Town beaches such as the Plage de la Gravette are close to the old town, and Juan-les-Pins has a long sandy beach. Check lifeguards and flags before you swim.
