Bach Ma National Park is a mountain forest reserve in Thua Thien Hue province, central Vietnam, a drive inland from the coast. Its cooler air is the main draw after the heat of the lowlands. Trails wind through the forest to waterfalls and a viewpoint near the summit. The area was developed by the French as a hill station, and traces of that period still stand among the trees. It suits hikers and slow walkers who want a cooler day between beach stops.
Day trips from Hue, Da Nang or Hoi An are one option, and an overnight stay leaves time for the longer walks. Rain shapes any plan here. Bach Ma is one of the rainiest areas in Vietnam, so trails can be slick and waterfall flow changes from season to season. Check the forecast the day before, and pack grippy shoes and a rain layer even when the sky looks clear.
Bach Ma National Park in five
- Check the park is open before you goBach Ma National Park announced it reopened to visitors from 1 January 2026. Confirm the trails and services you want with the park office on the day, since conditions can change.
- Start with the Hai Vong Dai viewpointA paved granite path of about 800 m leads from the old villa to a viewpoint at roughly 1,430 m. It is the easiest route on offer, with views over forest, sea and lagoon on a clear day.
- Add Do Quyen or Ngu Ho for waterDo Quyen is a trail of about 1.5 km, around 30 minutes, to the top of a waterfall over 300 m high. Ngu Ho is a similar walk to five lakes and falls, with swimming possible in the upper pools.
- Pack warm layers and shoes with gripThe park's visitor notice asks guests to book services ahead, bring warm clothing and low-soled shoes, and not litter. It also bars motorbikes and vehicles over 16 seats from the summit road, so check at the gate.
- Treat it as a long day tripThe park sits in the Hue area, but it is also reached from Da Nang or Hoi An by road. Start early to be at the viewpoint before cloud builds, and avoid it after heavy rain.Central Vietnam travel guide

Is Bach Ma National Park open?
The park announced it reopened to visitors on 1 January 2026. Confirm opening, trails and any vehicle limits with the park office before you travel, since weather and works can close parts of the road.
Is Bach Ma worth visiting?
Yes, if you want a cool, green day away from the coast and can pick a dry spell. Short trails to a viewpoint and waterfalls suit most fitness levels. Skip it on a wet forecast, when cloud hides the views.
How do you get to Bach Ma from Da Nang or Hue?
By road, either on a day tour or by hired car with a driver. Ask the driver about the summit road and vehicle limits, and set out early so you reach the viewpoint before cloud forms.
What should you wear at Bach Ma?
Layers, because the summit is much cooler than the coast, plus shoes with good grip and a rain jacket. Bring water and snacks, and carry out your rubbish.
What is the best time to visit Bach Ma?
February to June is the usual dry window on the central coast. September to December is very wet, with heavy rain on the mountain, and the trails can be slippery.
