Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam, on the South China Sea. It is one of nine centrally governed cities and the country's fourth largest by population. Mountains lie to the west and the sea to the east, and the Han River runs through the centre. The city is a major transport hub, with a port, an international airport, National Route 1 and the North-South Railway.
The city draws visitors for its beaches, the Bà Nà Hills resort, the Marble Mountains and dishes such as mì Quảng and bánh xèo. Hội An and Mỹ Sơn, both UNESCO World Heritage sites, are close by. Hội An is now one of the wards in the enlarged city, so the old town falls under the same administration. The dry season runs from January to August, and June to August is the hottest, at about 28 to 30 °C. The typhoon and wet season runs from September to December, when one or two storms usually affect the city each year.

Should I stay in Da Nang or Hoi An?
Da Nang for beaches and city life, Hoi An for the old town. They are only 45 minutes apart, so many people split their nights.
When is the Dragon Bridge fire show?
Usually on weekend nights around 9pm, though times change for holidays and events. Check locally on the day and arrive early for a spot on the riverbank.
When is the best time to visit Da Nang?
February to May, when it is dry and the sea is calm. October and November have the heaviest rain.
How do I get from Da Nang airport to Hoi An?
Take a taxi or Grab, about 45 minutes, or book a private transfer. Hoi An has no airport or train station, so Da Nang is the usual gateway.
Is Ba Na Hills worth visiting?
Yes if you want the Golden Bridge and the cable car ride. It is crowded and often cloudy, so go at opening on a weekday and skip it on a wet day.
