Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa and no eTA. US citizens need proper identification such as a valid US passport.

US citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement. US lawful permanent residents are exempt too: by air they need a valid passport from their country of nationality and a valid green card, and by land or water directly from the US the green card alone. The US State Department's Canada page (Last Updated August 11, 2025) says a visa is not required for stays of less than 180 days, and asks for a passport valid at entry.
