Do German passport holders need a visa for Costa Rica?

Covers 11 passports and 80 destinations. Rules older than 30 days are flagged for re-check.

Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa. German passport holders visit Costa Rica visa-free for up to 180 days.

The Auswärtiges Amt says Germans need no visa for tourist stays of up to 180 days, but there is no entitlement to the maximum and a shorter stay is often granted, so check the days in your entry stamp. You must show a return, onward or bus ticket and proof of funds. Overstaying can mean refused re-entry or deportation.
