Do Canadian passport holders need a visa for the United States?

Covers 11 passports and 80 destinations. Rules older than 30 days are flagged for re-check.

Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa and no ESTA. Canadian citizens visit the US with a passport.

Canadian citizens do not need a visitor visa for most trips, and Canada is not in the Visa Waiver Program, so there is no ESTA to apply for. Canadian permanent residents who are not citizens may need a visa. A CBP officer decides admission at the border.
