Calella de Palafrugell

A Costa Brava fishing village of small coves, a protected old fishing quarter and a coastal path to Cap Roig.

Calella de Palafrugell is a fishing village on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain, part of the municipality of Palafrugell in Girona province. It is not the same as Calella, a larger, more commercial resort near Barcelona in the Maresme region. The village shares its stretch of coast with Llafranc, about 1 km north, and Tamariu, about 4 km north. The town avoids mass tourism. Most of its hotels and apartments sit back from the beach, and a few campsites lie away from the sea.

Port Bo, the old fishing quarter, is protected as a cultural asset of national importance. Its white houses with porches keep the original village layout. The former net-sewing and fish-auction vaults now hold restaurants in front of small fishing boats still moored on the sand. The Cami de Ronda, a well-built coastal path, links the coves along cliffs and through several tunnels. On the Cap Roig headland, the Castell de Cap Roig stands in large botanical gardens built between 1929 and 1975. The beaches meet Blue Flag standard.
