Krka National Park lies in central Dalmatia in Šibenik-Knin County, a few kilometers northeast of the city of Šibenik. The park was proclaimed a national park in January 1985 to protect the Krka River, which flows from the foot of the Dinara mountains near Knin through a canyon to Šibenik Bay. Its best-known stop is Skradinski buk, where 17 travertine waterfalls fall within about 400 by 100 meters and the drop from the first to the last fall is 47.7 meters. The lower river is a ria, a river mouth drowned by rising sea level, so seawater reaches the base of the falls.
Boat trips from Skradinski buk reach Visovac, an island with a Franciscan monastery founded in 1445. Roški Slap, near Miljevci, is the park's second most visited attraction. It can be reached by excursion boat or public road and visited all year. About 222 bird species have been recorded in the park, and the Krka is important for migration in spring and autumn. Water flow at Skradinski buk is about 43 cubic meters per second in winter and 18 in summer, so the falls carry much more water in winter.

How much is Krka National Park entry?
The 2026 list shows adults at 7 EUR in January to March and November to December, 20 EUR in April, May and October, and 40 EUR from June to September, with 30 EUR after 15:00 in summer. Boat trips are extra.
Can you swim at Krka waterfalls?
Not freely. The park bans swimming except at specially marked places. Check signs on arrival, since the rule is enforced to protect the travertine.
How long do you need at Krka?
Most visits centre on Skradinski buk. Add Visovac or Roški slap with the park boats, which the 2026 list shows as 2-hour and 4-hour trips, and plan a full day.
Krka or Plitvice?
Krka sits near Šibenik and Split, with boats and a Visovac island stop. Plitvice is a chain of terraced lakes with boardwalks, further inland. Choose Krka if you travel along the coast, and see the Plitvice guide for the other.
When is the best time to visit Krka?
May and October balance green water, lower prices than summer and open boats. Winter is cheap but the boat trips and buses mostly do not run. July and August are hot and expensive.
