Kornati National Park is a group of 89 islands, islets and reefs in the Adriatic Sea, off the Dalmatian coast between Zadar and Šibenik. Most of the islands are bare limestone with little shade, and the water around them is clear. You reach the park almost entirely by boat. Day cruises leave from Murter, Šibenik and Zadar, and visitors with their own boat plan their anchorages before they sail.
The trip suits sailors, boat owners and anyone who wants a full day on the water. A visitor without a boat can book a guided day cruise. Those with their own boat and some sailing experience plan a route between the designated anchorages. The season runs from late spring to early autumn, when the sea is warm enough for swimming. Check the forecast before you sail, because wind and sea state decide how far a small boat can go. Allow at least one full day, and more if you want to sail the archipelago at a slower pace.

- Anchor only in the 16 allowed placesAnchoring and overnighting is allowed at 16 named bays and coves. Swimming is allowed except in the zones of strict protection, and camping is forbidden outside authorized camps.
- Carry food and waterSupplies cannot be bought inside the park out of high season, and most taverns open only in high season. A small store at Vela Panitula and boat-shops cover basics in summer.
- Hike only on marked trailsAll land in the park is privately owned, and hiking is allowed only on trails marked for it. Bring sun protection, since there is little shade on the bare islands.

How do you visit the Kornati Islands?
By your own boat or a rented one, or on an organized tour from ports such as Zadar, Šibenik, Biograd or Murter. Most visitors take a day cruise, which includes the park ticket in the usual package.
How much does a Kornati tour cost?
It depends on the operator, the route and the season. The park does not set tour prices, so compare what is included, such as lunch, the park ticket and swim stops, before you book.
Is a Kornati day trip worth it?
Yes if you want clear water, bare islands and a day on a boat. Skip it on windy days or if you dislike sun exposure, since shade is scarce and the cruise lasts roughly nine hours.
When is the best time to visit the Kornati?
June and September give warm swimming. July and August have daily tours but more heat. May and October suit calmer trips, with tours often organized for groups that individuals can join.
Can you swim and camp in the Kornati?
Swimming is allowed except in the zones of strict protection. Camping is forbidden outside authorized camps, and overnight anchoring is allowed only at 16 listed bays and coves.
