Pollença is a town in northern Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands in Spain. Its old town has narrow stone lanes and a central square. The best-known sight sits at the edge of town: the Calvari, a long staircase lined with small chapels that climbs to a hilltop church. Go up in the cooler hours for views over the rooftops and the countryside.
Plan two or three nights. That covers the town, a beach day and a drive on the Formentor road, which runs north from town to the cape and is easiest by car. Walk the old town on foot. Port de Pollença, on the bay, has more restaurants and easy swimming. Cove stays suit swimmers who want quiet water, but you will need a car to reach the town centre. Late spring and early autumn are the best time to go, when it is warm and less crowded than midsummer.

Is Pollença worth visiting?
Yes, if you like old stone towns and walking. The Calvari steps, the main square and the hills make a calm contrast to Mallorca's big resorts. Combine it with Port de Pollença for beach time.
How do you get from Palma airport to Pollença?
By car in about 1 hour, or by taxi. Buses and transfers also run, but timetables are limited, so check the schedule before you land late in the day.
Should I stay in Pollença or Port de Pollença?
Stay in the old town for atmosphere and walking, and in the port for beaches and easier summer dining. Both are a short drive apart, so you can swap by day.
Do I need a car in Pollença?
Not for the old town. A car helps for Formentor, the coves and anything beyond the port. In July and August parking in the center fills early.
What is the best time to visit Pollença?
May, June, September and October balance warm sea, quieter roads and open restaurants. July and August are busy and hot. Spring brings walking weather with blossom.
