Dénia is a port town on Spain's Costa Blanca, in the Valencian Community and Alicante province. Its old quarter climbs toward a castle above the harbor, and a long sandy beach runs along the edge of town. Most of the town sits within walking distance of the harbor. Fishing still shapes daily life, and the red prawn, known locally as gamba roja, is the dish to order here. Behind the town, the Montgó natural park rises above the coast.
Ferries from the port sail to Ibiza and Formentera in the Balearic Islands, so Dénia works well as a stop for island trips. It suits a relaxed base for beach days, seafood and day trips more than a nightlife scene. The beach season runs from late spring to early autumn. Plan two or three days for the town itself, and more if you want to base yourself here for island trips.
