Sidi Ifni is a city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. Spanish colonial architecture recalls the period when the town was under Spanish rule, which ended in 1969. Spain built a small coastal fortress in the 15th century; the site is claimed to be Santa Cruz de la Mar Pequeña, but its exact location is unconfirmed. Fishing is the mainstay of the local economy, and the port completed in 2000 is the town’s working harbour and a base for fish exports.
Pylons and end stations from a 1960s sea cable system are still visible near the port and on the cliffs east of town. The cables are gone, but the system once moved cargo and people between ships and shore. Sidi Ifni is a base for exploring the Atlantic coast between Agadir and Tarfaya. The town has a hot desert climate, with mild to warm weather year-round, cooled by the Canary Current. Rain is slight and erratic, falling from November to April; the drier months suit most travellers.

- Check flags and lifeguards before you swimThe tourist board lists Sidi Ifni among Atlantic beaches certified under the Blue Flag program, but the UK government warns of limited lifeguard cover and strong currents on many Moroccan beaches. Swim where lifeguards are posted.
- Walk the old Spanish-era center in an hourThe town was a Spanish enclave until 1969, and the streets around the main squares keep that look. It is small enough to see on foot, so treat it as a place to stay rather than a sightseeing stop.
- Stage the Agadir transfer around daylightThe tourist board lists Sidi Ifni among the essentials of its Agadir region. Agadir is the main gateway; continue by car or grand taxi through Tiznit and finish the coast road before dark.Getting around Morocco

Is Sidi Ifni worth visiting?
Yes for a quiet stay with a beach, a small old center and few crowds. Skip it if you want major sights or nightlife; the pace is slow and the schedule is yours to fill.
Why does Sidi Ifni look Spanish?
The town was a Spanish enclave until 1969, and the streets around the main squares keep that look. It is a quick walk, and the interest is in the details rather than a single landmark.
Can you swim at Sidi Ifni?
Be careful. The tourist board lists Sidi Ifni's beach among certified sites, but the UK government says many Moroccan beaches have limited lifeguard cover and strong currents. Swim only where lifeguards are posted.
Can you visit Sidi Ifni as a day trip from Mirleft?
Yes. The two towns are a short drive apart, so a base in either works. Sidi Ifni suits an afternoon for its old center and beach, but fog or wind can change a beach day, so keep the schedule loose.
When is the best time to visit Sidi Ifni?
Spring and autumn give mild days and calmer evenings, and summer is warm without desert heat. Winter is mild but quieter and cooler at night, and ocean fog can arrive at any time.
