Tijuana is the largest city in Baja California, the Mexican state that forms the northern tip of the Baja Peninsula. It sits directly against San Diego, California. You can cross for the day, walk Avenida Revolución, the city's main tourist street, and be back in San Diego the same evening.

The food is the main reason to go. Baja Med cooking mixes Mexican ingredients with Mediterranean-style grilling, olive oil and Pacific seafood, and taco stands are found across the city. The Valle de Guadalupe wine region is about an hour's drive away. You can cross on foot or use Cross Border Xpress, a pedestrian bridge that connects Tijuana's airport with San Diego's airport. Waits at the vehicle crossings can be long at busy times, so plan your schedule around them. Check the current US State Department travel advisory for Baja California before you go.
