Mazunte is a small beach village on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca State in southern Mexico, on the stretch of coast between Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. The Mexican Sea Turtle Center works on conservation of the turtles that nest along this coast. Punta Cometa, a rocky headland, is where people gather at sunset to watch the sun go down over the Pacific. Yoga studios and simple places to stay are part of the village's everyday scene.
Mazunte suits trips built around beach days, reading and early nights. San Agustinillo is quieter and Zipolite is livelier, so you can base yourself in one of the three and day-trip to the others. The drier months, roughly November to April, are the usual choice for beach time. Plan several nights to fit in the turtle center and a sunset at Punta Cometa.
