Cabo San Lucas

People come to Cabo San Lucas for the El Arco rock arch, Medano Beach and boat trips from the marina, at the southern tip of Baja California Sur.

Cabo San Lucas is a resort town at the southern tip of Baja California Sur, Mexico, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Most visitors come for El Arco, a rock arch at the tip of the peninsula that you see best from the water, and for Medano Beach, a long sand beach on the Sea of Cortez side with restaurants and bars along it. Boat tours from the marina also reach Lover's Beach, a beach near the arch that is reached by boat.

The trip suits a beach-and-boat holiday, with the marina's bars and restaurants close by. The best weather runs from late fall through spring, when days are warm and mostly dry. Humpback whales pass offshore in winter and early spring. Summer is hot, and hurricane season runs from June through November. Three or four days covers the town, El Arco and one boat trip.

Cabo San Lucas FAQ

Is Cabo San Lucas worth visiting?

Yes, for boat trips, whale watching and easy beach time, with strong restaurants and nightlife. It is busy and built for resorts, so travelers wanting quiet should look at San José del Cabo, Todos Santos or Cabo Pulmo.

How many days do you need in Cabo San Lucas?

Three or four days covers El Arco, Medano Beach, a sunset sail and one day trip. Add days if you head to Todos Santos or Cabo Pulmo.

Can you swim at Lover's Beach?

The Sea of Cortez side is calm on many days, but conditions change. Divorce Beach, on the Pacific side next to it, is dangerous, and authorities closed access in August 2026. Follow your boat captain's advice.

When is whale-watching season in Cabo?

Humpback whales pass the cape roughly from December to April, with tours leaving from the marina. Sightings are common but never guaranteed, so book a flexible tour.

Do I need a car in Cabo San Lucas?

Not for the marina and Medano area, which are walkable, with taxis and rides for the rest. Rent a car for Pedregal, the corridor or day trips to Todos Santos and Cabo Pulmo.
