Wadi Musa is a town in Ma'an Governorate in southern Jordan and the administrative center of the Petra district. It is the main base for visitors to Petra, which lies about 3.5 km away. The town is about 250 km from Amman and about 100 km north of the Red Sea port of Aqaba. It has more than 50 hotels, many of them four or five stars and built in recent years, along with tourist restaurants and shops and bazaars selling handicrafts and souvenirs.
Beneath the modern town lies a Nabataean settlement with residences, villas, temples and water systems. Ain Musa, a spring nearby, is said to be where Moses struck water from a rock, and the Nabataeans channeled its water to Petra. Jebel Harun holds the Tomb of Aaron, the traditional burial site of the biblical Aaron. The climate is semi-arid: most rain falls in winter, about 193 mm a year, and the average annual temperature is 15.5 °C (59.9 °F). Plan your nights around Petra.
