Hours checked Sep 12, 2026

Trevi Fountain fills Piazza di Trevi in central Rome, where its sculpted stone façade and rushing water rise against Palazzo Poli. Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in the 18th century, it draws on a much older water supply and depicts Oceanus, sea-horses and other mythological figures. Look closely at the carvings, then toss a coin over your shoulder if you want to follow the local tradition associated with a return to Rome. The fountain is especially striking after dark, when its sculptures are lit.
