Vrindavan is a temple town in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Yamuna River in northern India. Hindu tradition holds that Krishna spent his childhood here, and the town's temples, small shrines and ashrams have grown up around that story. Pilgrims move between them through most of the day, often on foot through narrow lanes.

The main draw is the devotional life itself: morning and evening aarti, devotional singing, and the riverside ghats where people bathe and pray. Vrindavan is a short drive from Mathura and a long day trip from Agra or Delhi. Plan a day for the main temples, or stay a night if you want the evening ceremonies and the quieter early hours. Winter is the most comfortable season, and summer is very hot. Holi and Janmashtami bring large crowds and fill rooms, so book early if you travel during those festivals.

  4. Avoid Holi and Janmashtami unless you want crowdsBraj Holi and Janmashtami draw very large crowds and sell out hotels. Come on those days for the festival, or choose another week for a calm visit.Uttar Pradesh travel guide
