Argo Cable Car

Argo Cable Car

Ride the Argo Cable Car from Batumi's port up to Mount Anuria for views of the city, the Black Sea and the mountains. Sunset is a good time to go.

The Argo Cable Car carries visitors from the waterfront in Batumi up to Mount Anuria, rising over the old and new parts of the city. From the top you see the port, the Black Sea and the mountains of Adjara. The upper station has an observation deck, a café, restaurants, a wine corner and gift shops, so the ride can be part of a longer afternoon or evening. The cabins are enclosed with large windows, and the light is softer at sunset, which suits photos.

Name and origins

Argo Cable Car

The cable car was started in 2008 as part of a wider project. It connects to the Cultural Entertainment Complex ARGO, which holds restaurants, cafés, shops, open air halls and rooftop terraces. Construction of the complex was completed in August 2013, and the cable car and the entertainment centre were built as one project.

The name pays tribute to ancient Greek myths.

The ride and what you see

The lower station sits on the waterfront between the port and Wonder Park, close to Miracle Park. From there the line climbs over the city toward Mount Anuria.

Along the way you pass over the older streets of Batumi, with their Georgian architecture, and the newer buildings that have gone up in recent years. Beyond the city you can see greenery, the mountains and the sea. The cabins are modern and comfortable, so you can watch the view without much effort.

At night the city lights take over the view, and the sea and the harbour show the lights of the port.

At the top

The upper station has a viewing platform, a café and a restaurant. A wine tasting corner and gift shops are also there. A digital museum and Joy Time activities add more to do, and the top includes gaming arcades and swings for photos. The bathrooms up top are clean.

One restaurant serves Georgian food, which makes it a practical place for a meal before or after the ride.

Access and planning

The entrance, the restroom and the seating are listed as wheelchair accessible, and so is the parking lot. Tickets are best bought ahead of your visit.

Plan the ride around the weather and the light. A clear day gives the widest view, and the late afternoon is the time for sunset photos.
