Batumi is the capital of Adjara, an autonomous republic in southwestern Georgia on the eastern shore of the Black Sea, close to the Turkish border. The city center runs along a long seafront boulevard, with beaches on one side and tall modern buildings on the other. Old Batumi, a compact area of older streets and small squares, lies close to the seafront.
The city grew up as a port and seaside resort. Its mild, wet climate supports palms and a botanical garden on the slopes north of the center, where paths climb through planted hillsides above the sea. Plan for beach time, slow walks and seafood by the water, with day trips inland to Adjara's mountains. Early autumn is a good time to visit, when the sea is still warm and the crowds have thinned. Summer brings the most visitors, and rain is common in autumn and winter. Three days is enough for the old town, the boulevard and the garden at a relaxed pace.

How many days do you need in Batumi?
Two days cover Old Batumi, the boulevard and the Botanical Garden. Three days add a beach afternoon or Gonio. Add one or two more for Mtirala National Park or Kutaisi.
Is Batumi worth visiting?
Yes, if you want sea, a walkable boulevard and a base for Ajara's hills and gardens, since it is Georgia's main beach city. Skip it in midwinter if swimming is the point, and expect rain in any season.
When is the best time to visit Batumi?
Georgia Travel points to early autumn, the velvet season, for warm weather without peak heat. Late spring and September also work for swimming. July and August are the busiest and most humid months.
How do you get from Tbilisi to Batumi?
By road it takes about 5 h 30 min, and Georgia Travel also lists air, bus and train links. Check current schedules on the operators' own sites and allow a full travel day if you go overland.
Is Batumi safe at night?
FCDO rates crime in Georgia as low. After dark, stay on the lit boulevard and the old town, watch your glass in bars and book late rides through a taxi app.
