Bol is a small town on the south coast of Brač, an island off the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. Its main draw is Zlatni rat, a long pebble spit at the edge of town that curves into the Adriatic and changes shape with the wind and currents. The town itself is compact, with a harbor, the Dominican monastery and a waterfront of cafes and restaurants.
The channel between Brač and Hvar is the reason to come to Bol for windsurfing. Check the wind forecast the day before you plan a session. Summer is the warmest season for the sea. Bol suits a slower, beach-focused trip better than a sightseeing one. Two or three nights leaves time for the beach, a session on the water and a walk along the harbor.

Is Bol worth visiting?
Yes for beach and wind days. Zlatni rat and the promenade are the draw, and the town is small and walkable. Skip it if you want nightlife or a sightseeing city, and consider Supetar or Hvar instead.
How do I get from Split to Bol?
Take the catamaran from Split harbor, which Jadrolinija lists at about 1 h 5 min, or the car ferry to Supetar and drive across the island. The catamaran is simpler without a car.
Is Zlatni rat a sand beach?
No. It is fine golden gravel built up around a submerged reef, and the tip changes shape with wind and sea currents, according to the tourist board. Bring water shoes for the pebbles.
Can you visit Bol as a day trip from Split?
Yes, by catamaran in season, but a day gives only the beach and the promenade. Stay one night or more to see the beach in the evening and early morning.
When is the best time to visit Bol?
June and September give warm water with fewer crowds. July and August are hottest and busiest. May suits walkers, while windsurfers often prefer the windier summer afternoons.
