    Etihad Museum

Visit Etihad Museum in Jumeirah to explore the UAE’s founding story through interactive displays, historic documents and a manuscript-shaped building.

Etihad Museum in Jumeirah 1 tells the story of the United Arab Emirates’ formation in 1971, on the historic site beside Union House. Its manuscript-shaped building has seven columns inspired by the pens used to sign the union agreement. Inside, photographs, films, documents and interactive displays trace the years around the country’s founding and introduce its seven founding rulers. Look for the signed agreement and Sheikh Rashid’s passport. Families can also find hands-on displays and weekend activities.

The site of the UAE’s formation

Etihad Museum stands beside Union House in Jumeirah 1, on the site associated with the formation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. The agreement that united the seven emirates was signed at Union House. The museum places that event within the years of change leading up to the union and the country’s early development.

The exhibitions focus especially on the period from 1968 to 1974. They explore the events and discussions that led to the union, the rulers involved and the political and social changes surrounding the new country. The museum opened in 2017, giving this recent history a dedicated place in Dubai.

A building shaped by the agreement

The museum’s design refers to the document that established the UAE. Its curved form resembles a manuscript, while seven columns recall the pens used to sign the agreement. The architecture makes the founding story visible before you enter the galleries.

The displays bring together photographs, documentary films, timelines, maps and historical objects. Among the items connected with the founding rulers are personal belongings, including Sheikh Rashid’s passport. The signed union agreement is another key document. A large painting by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais depicts the geography of the UAE near the entrance.

Following the story through the galleries

Interactive exhibits help explain the chronology and decisions behind the union. In one timeline display, touching a year brings up information about its significance. Films and archival images show the founding years, while other galleries consider the country’s social, cultural and military history.

The experience suits visitors who want more than a quick look at the building: the exhibits connect the site to the people and events behind the UAE’s formation. Children can engage with interactive displays, and the museum holds weekend activities such as painting workshops. Free English museum tours are offered every hour. Beside the museum, Union House can also be visited on a free tour.
