Lviv is a city in western Ukraine, close to the Polish border and the capital of Lviv Oblast. Its historic center, listed by UNESCO in 1998, grows out of Rynok Square and a grid of streets lined with Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau facades. Centuries of Polish and Austrian rule left churches of several denominations, a stone-paved old town and a long tradition of coffee houses.
A long weekend works, but three to four days lets you add a day trip to Zhovkva or Olesko Castle. Most sights sit within walking distance of Rynok Square. Plan time for Lychakiv Cemetery, the High Castle hill and a few long coffee breaks in the old town. Late spring through early autumn is the most pleasant season for walking. Check current travel advisories for Ukraine before you book, because conditions there change.

Is Lviv worth visiting?
Yes, for an old town of merchant houses, historic coffee houses and a center you can walk in a day. Plan two or three days, and check your government's current travel advice before you book.
How many days do you need in Lviv?
Two or three days cover the old town, the Lychakiv Cemetery and one day trip. Allow an extra day if you want to visit a smaller town nearby.
Is Lviv good for coffee?
Yes. The old town has many historic coffee houses, and sitting in one for an hour is a normal part of a visit. Some get busy at midday, so go early or late.
Do you need Ukrainian to get around Lviv?
A few words help in small shops and markets, where staff may not speak English. Taxi apps and maps show the address in Ukrainian, so set your phone to show Ukrainian labels.
Can you visit Lviv on a day trip from Kyiv?
Two or three days in Lviv give you more than a single day trip. Check current train times on the national rail site before you plan a day there.
