Çeşme is a seaside town at the tip of a peninsula on Türkiye's Aegean coast, west of İzmir city. A castle stands by the harbor, and the town center is small enough to explore on foot. Alaçatı, a short drive away, is known for its stone houses and windsurfing. Ilıca has thermal bays. Ferries leave from the harbor for the Greek island of Chios.
Çeşme suits a relaxed beach stay, a windsurfing trip, or a few days built around a day trip to Chios. If you plan to cross, bring your passport. The sea is warm and the wind steady from late spring to early autumn. Stay in town for the harbor and cafés, or closer to the beaches if you come for the sea. Plan three to five days for a slow visit.

- Choose Çeşme town, Alaçatı or Ilıca as your baseTown has the harbor and castle, Alaçatı the stone-house lanes and wind sports, Ilıca the thermal bay. Each is a short dolmuş or taxi ride from the others.
- Avoid July and August weekendsİzmir residents fill the peninsula on summer weekends, with traffic and prices to match. Midweek, June and September give the same beaches with space.
- Treat Chios as a full day from the harborFerries to the Greek island of Chios sail from Çeşme harbor. Border control applies at both ends, so book the return when you book the outward sailing and keep your passport out of the beach bag.
- Rent a car, or plan dolmuş, for the covesThe best swim spots lie beyond town. A car reaches them freely; dolmuş run on set routes between town, Alaçatı and the main beaches.Getting around

Is Çeşme worth visiting?
Yes for a beach and harbor weekend, and for Alaçatı's lanes and wind sports. It is a resort peninsula, not a sightseeing city, so pick it for the sea.
How many days do you need in Çeşme?
Two or three days cover the castle, a beach day and an evening in Alaçatı. A long weekend suits the summer peak.
What is the difference between Çeşme and Alaçatı?
Çeşme is the harbor town with the castle and ferry port; Alaçatı is a stone-house village with boutiques and wind sports. They are a short dolmuş ride apart.
Is Çeşme a good base for windsurfing?
Alaçatı is the usual windsurf base, with schools and rental near the bay. Wind is strongest in summer afternoons, so book a lesson in the morning or check the forecast.
When is the best time to visit Çeşme?
June and September for warm sea and fewer people. July and August are hot, with crowded weekends, and many places shut from about November to March.
