Do you need a visa?

How this tool works

We read the official notice for each pair and record the date. Nothing here is generated; a pair with no written check is not shown.

How we check

No visa. US passport holders visit Sweden visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180.

Sweden is in the Schengen area, so the 90 days are shared with every other Schengen country. At your first crossing you register in the EES with a face scan and fingerprints instead of a passport stamp. ETIAS, an online authorization for visa-free visitors, is not yet in operation. Sweden has notified temporary controls at all its internal borders from 12 May to 11 November 2026 (European Commission list), so carry your passport on trips in and out. The 90-day exemption comes from Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, which lists the United States in Annex II; the Swedish Migration Agency sets the entry conditions, because travel.state.gov could not be read.
