Yangmingshan National Park covers parts of Taipei and New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, a short distance from the capital's urban area. It is one of Taiwan's nine national parks and centers on the Tatun volcano group. Qixing (Seven Star) Mountain, at 1,120 m, is Taiwan's tallest dormant volcano and the highest peak in Taipei City. Ridges, valleys, lakes and waterfalls rise between about 200 and 1,120 metres, and the park is known for its spring cherry blossoms.
The park is known for hot springs and volcanic ground. Lengshuikeng has a public hot spring bathhouse, and Xiaoyoukeng, at about 805 m, has fumaroles, sulfur crystals and hot springs. The Yangming Park flower clock chimes with music every 30 minutes from 8:00 to 17:00. Venomous snakes live in the park, so stay on marked trails. Summers are warm and humid with heavy rain, typhoon season runs from June to October, and winters are cool, wet and very foggy. Spring brings the largest crowds for blossoms. Datun, Erziping, Qingtiangang and Xiaoyoukeng are spread across the park, so plan your route before you go.
