Estepona is a town on the Costa del Sol in Málaga province, Andalucía, between Marbella to the east and the Gibraltar border to the west. Its old town, the Casco Antiguo, has narrow streets, the Castillo de Estepona and murals on many walls, and the seafront is a short walk away. Playa de La Rada is the main town beach, lined with the Paseo Marítimo and its cafés. Farther west, toward Manilva, the coast is quieter and holiday apartments are more common.
Stay three or four nights if you want the old town, the beaches and one or two day trips. Ronda, a town built on a cliff above a deep gorge, is the most common inland day trip. Gibraltar is also reachable by car. A hire car makes both trips simpler; without one, check bus and taxi times before you choose a day. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable months for walking, while summer is hot and the beach strip is busiest.
