Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a cultural complex at 281 Eulji-ro in Seoul’s Jung District, designed by Zaha Hadid with Samoo Architects. Its flowing, curved form is worth exploring from outside and in, with galleries, event spaces, design shops and areas that rise toward the roof. Exhibitions and events change, and some are free while special shows may require a ticket. Check the current program before you go, then leave time to follow the building’s sloping interior paths and look for changing views of its architecture.
Architecture and layout

Designed by Zaha Hadid alongside Samoo Architects, DDP is a multi-purpose cultural complex in Seoul’s Jung District. Its curved, free-form exterior continues into the interior, where sloping paths follow the shape of the building. Walking through the complex gives you different angles on its surfaces and spaces, so it is worth looking around both outside and inside.
The building replaced Dongdaemun Stadium. Its design is known for its undulating aluminium and concrete forms, with lawns rising toward the roof. The adjacent Dongdaemun History & Culture Park has museums covering earlier uses of the area, including a 16th-century military camp.
Exhibitions and events

DDP hosts art and design exhibitions, conferences and fashion events, including Seoul Fashion Week. Galleries and displays change with the program, and parts of the building may be closed during events. Check the schedule before your visit to see what is on and which areas are open.
General entry to the complex is free, while some temporary exhibitions require paid tickets. Timed entry is used for special shows, so book ahead when advance tickets are recommended. The building is also used for design shops and other event spaces, giving you more to explore beyond the galleries.
