Jeonju is a city in the Jeolla region of southwestern South Korea, and its old center, Hanok Village, is built around traditional wooden houses along narrow lanes. Some of those houses now work as guesthouses, cafes and shops, so the lanes stay busy through the day. Gyeonggijeon, a shrine that honors Taejo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty, sits inside the village and is an easy walk from its main streets.
Food is the other reason to come. Jeonju is closely tied to bibimbap, the rice bowl topped with seasoned vegetables, egg and gochujang, and the city is a good place to eat it. Plan one or two nights. A first evening lets you walk the village after the day visitors leave, and a second day leaves room for meals and the places around town. Spring and autumn are the usual choice for walking the lanes.

Is Jeonju Hanok Village worth visiting?
Yes for a walkable village of around 700 hanok, food stops and hands-on activities. Weekends and holidays are busy, so go early or stay overnight to see it when day trippers leave.
Is there an entrance fee for Jeonju Hanok Village?
KTO lists entry as free. Individual sights, activities and hanok stays have their own prices, and parking is charged by the 15 minutes, so check each before you go.
How many days do you need in Jeonju?
One day covers the village, with one night better for evenings in a hanok. Add a second day only if you plan a food-focused stay or a trip to Gwangju.
Can you stay in a hanok in Jeonju?
Yes. KTO points to hanok accommodation in the village, and the Hanok Life Experience Hall for a look at traditional rooms. Book ahead for weekends, and ask about heating in winter.
When is the best time to visit Jeonju?
April, May, September and October. Summer is hot and humid, and winter is cold, though a snowy village can be pretty. Check events before you plan around a festival.
