Incheon is a port city in northwestern South Korea that borders Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. It is the country's third-largest city and part of the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Incheon International Airport on Yeongjong Island, the country's main international airport, opened on 29 March 2001. The Airport Express takes 43 minutes to Seoul Station, and the all-stop service takes 53 minutes.
The old port area is the center of most visits. Chinatown sits across from Incheon Station, and Wolmido, a former military site at Green Beach, has a boardwalk, an amusement park and seafood restaurants. The Incheon Central Fish Market at Yeonan Pier draws crowds for raw fish and seafood. Jjajangmyeon, jjamppong and jjolmyeon are noodle dishes linked to the city. Ganghwa Island, reached by bridge, has Goryeo palace and royal tomb sites and old fortresses. Summer is hot and humid, with July and August the hottest and wettest months, and winter is cold. Plan one day for the port and Chinatown, and a longer day for Ganghwa Island.

How do you get from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
By AREX train, airport limousine bus or taxi. The Express train runs non-stop to Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 from Terminal 2, per KTO; the all-stop train takes about 59 and 66 minutes.
Can you tour Seoul on a layover at Incheon?
Yes. KTO lists transit tours of under five hours, run from Terminal 1 and 2 desks, if you hold a visa-free passport, a qualifying onward visa or a flight leaving within 72 hours. Book on the airport's site.
Is there a night bus from Incheon Airport?
Yes. KTO says most services to central Seoul end around 23:30, and night buses with an N in the route number run to Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, including Suwon. Tickets must be bought in advance.
Is Incheon worth a stop beyond the airport?
For a long layover or an early flight, yes. For a first trip, most visitors base in Seoul and use Incheon only for the airport, since AREX connects them in under about an hour.
Are there ferries from Incheon to Jeju?
KTO lists ships to Jeju from the Incheon Coastal Passenger Terminal, with a passport or ID required to board. Its schedule page is dated, so check the operator before planning around a ferry.
