Coron is a municipality on Busuanga Island in Palawan, in the western Philippines. The town sits on a bay surrounded by limestone hills, and many of the lagoons, lakes and small islands nearby are reached by boat from town. Japanese navy warships and supply ships sank in Coron Bay in 1944 during World War II. The wrecks later drew divers, so visitors come for the underwater sites as well as the lagoons.
A Coron trip suits travelers who want water, boats and quiet beaches more than city sights. Day tours usually stop at several lagoons and reefs, while divers and snorkelers can book trips to the wrecks and clear reef water. Stays range from guesthouses to small resorts, mostly in town and along the coast. The dry season, roughly December to April, has the calmest seas, and typhoons can disrupt travel from about June to October. Plan at least three or four days so you are not rushing between boat trips.

How do you get to Coron?
Fly from Manila to Busuanga airport (USU), then take a van and a boat across to Coron town on Coron Island. Ask your hotel to arrange the transfer, because boat times are fixed.
How many days do you need in Coron?
Three nights covers the town and one full day of island hopping, with a spare day in case of rough seas. Add a night if you want a second boat day or a diving trip.
Is Coron worth it for divers?
Coron Bay holds Japanese shipwrecks from the Second World War, and the reefs are a common reason to base here. Book only with a registered operator and check your certification.
When is the best time to visit Coron?
December to April are the driest months. The typhoon risk runs mainly from July to October, when boat trips can be cancelled.
Is Coron expensive?
Accommodation and food can be cheap, but boat tours and private boat hire set most of the cost. Compare operators and ask what the price includes before you pay.
