Camiguin is an island province in the Bohol Sea, about 10 km offshore from northern Mindanao. Its main island is shaped like a pearl, around 23 km long and 14.5 km wide, and a national road of about 64 km runs around its coast. Mambajao is the provincial capital. The island is volcanic. Mount Hibok-Hibok is active and last erupted in 1953, and the forest on its main mountains is protected as a natural monument.

People come for the waterfalls, hot and cold springs, old Spanish-era churches and lanzones, a grape-sized fruit considered among the sweetest in the Philippines. The island suits travelers who want nature and small-town life more than nightlife, and the main sights are spread around Mambajao and Catarman. Ferry crossings depend on weather, so check sea conditions before you set your dates. Plan several days to cover the falls and springs, and add time for hiking, diving or snorkeling.

Camiguin in five

  1. Book Cebu Pacific from Mactan or fly to LaguindinganCebu Pacific runs daily flights from Mactan Cebu International Airport to Camiguin Airport. Most visitors fly to Laguindingan in Cagayan de Oro instead, then take a shuttle to the Agora Bus Terminal and an eastbound bus to Balingoan, about two hours.Getting around
  2. Catch the Balingoan ferry before the last sailingFerries run from Balingoan to Benoni port on Camiguin in just over an hour, depending on weather. Sailings run from about 4:00 am to 5:00 pm and are frequent, so time the bus from Cagayan de Oro to reach the port well before the last boat.
  3. Check the Super Shuttle RoRo for BoholA Super Shuttle RoRo ferry runs daily between the Port of Balbagon on Camiguin and the Port of Jagna in Bohol. Confirm the sailing time with the operator before you plan the crossing.
  4. Set up an eSIM before the bus leaves Cagayan de OroLoad an eSIM and download offline maps before you travel, so you can check ferry times and trail maps without a signal.Phones and eSIM
  5. Check Phivolcs bulletins before any volcano walkMount Hibok-Hibok is active and last erupted in 1953. Check the Phivolcs bulletin on the day you plan to walk, and follow local guidance at the trailhead.
