Manzanillo is a port city on the Pacific coast of Colima, in western Mexico. It is one of the country's main container ports, so cargo ships and cranes are part of the view from the water. The draw is the coast around the bay: beach zones, a marina area and quieter stretches farther along the shore. The town is also a base for sportfishing, and its offshore waters are known for marlin and sailfish.
Choose this trip if you fish, want beach stays with little nightlife, or are using the town as a stop on a Pacific road trip. Expect a working city with resort areas, so the neighborhood you pick shapes your stay more than it would in a small beach town. Colima city and the village of Comala are inland and make a day trip from the coast. The dry season, roughly November to May, has the least rain. Pacific hurricane season runs roughly May to November, so check forecasts if you travel in those months. Three to four days covers the beaches, a boat trip and an inland day.
Manzanillo in five

- Take a day to Colima and ComalaColima, the state capital, and the whitewashed village of Comala are about 1 hour inland, with a volcano on the skyline. It makes an easy break from the beach.
- Respect the surf and undertowSome beaches here have heavy surf and undertow, especially after storms. Follow flags and local advice, and swim in sheltered bays.
- Skip the hottest monthsJune to October is hot, humid and wet, with hurricane risk around September and October. November to April is the comfortable season on this coast.
