Triesenberg is a municipality in the mountains of Liechtenstein, the small German-speaking principality between Switzerland and Austria. Its villages sit on the hillside above Vaduz, the national capital, and the road up from the valley climbs through forest and bends. The community descends from Walser families who came from the Valais region of Switzerland in the Middle Ages and farmed the high ground. The Walser German dialect is still spoken here, and the village has a local Walser museum.

People come mainly for walking and winter sport. In summer, trails lead from the village into the high valleys and up toward the ridges. In winter, the ski area at Malbun, which is part of the municipality, is the main draw. Triesenberg suits a two- to three-night stay for hiking and slow mornings, or a day trip from Vaduz if your time in Liechtenstein is short. Summer is the easiest season for trails, and winter is for skiing.

    Is Triesenberg worth visiting?

Yes if you want a Walser village above Vaduz and walks in the mountains. It is small and quiet, with few big sights, so a two- to three-night stay or a day trip covers it.

Can you visit Triesenberg on a day trip?

Yes, from Vaduz by bus, taxi or car. A day covers the village and one walk, but a day spent on the slopes or trails at Malbun needs more time.
