Vico Equense is a coastal town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in southern Italy. It sits on a tuff cliff at the start of the Sorrento coast, on the Sorrentine Peninsula, and it is the largest comune on that peninsula. Its territory climbs to Monte Sant'Angelo, the highest peak of the Lattari mountains, at 1,444 m. Visitors come for the clifftop Church of the Santissima Annunziata, the medieval Castello Giusso and the walks into the hills.
The town works well as a base for trips to Capri, Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, since the ferry to Capri is close by. The Circumvesuviana train from Naples serves Vico Equense, and the larger port of Seiano runs passenger ferries to Capri and Sorrento. Spring and autumn suit sightseeing and walking, while summer suits beach and spa visits. October to December are the wettest months, so pack a rain layer for autumn trips.
