San Teodoro is a beach town on the northeast coast of Sardinia, in the Gallura region. Most visitors come for La Cinta, a long beach of pale sand, and for swimming from the shore. Boat trips run to Tavolara, a rocky island offshore. Olbia, the nearest large airport and ferry port, is a short drive away. The coast suits a beach holiday built around swimming, boat outings and slow evenings in town.
Plan at least three nights to fit a beach day, a boat trip to Tavolara and a slower day. July and August are the busiest months, with the most people on the sand and the highest prices. Late spring and early autumn are milder and less crowded. Check boat schedules before you go, since they change with the season.
San Teodoro in five
- Go to La Cinta early or lateThe beach is long, but July and August fill the car parks and the sand by late morning. Arrive at opening or in the late afternoon, and check parking and any shuttle arrangements for the season.
- Never take sand, shells or pebblesSardinian law fines visitors who remove sand, shells or pebbles from beaches, and checks happen at ports and airports. Leave them where they are.
- Book a boat to TavolaraBoats leave from the nearby ports to the island and its marine reserve, and rules protect the sea around it. Choose a booking you can cancel if the sea is rough.Sardinia
- Plan the drive from OlbiaThe airport is about half an hour away by road, and the coast road is slow in summer. Book a car or transfer in advance, and use buses only if you are not in a hurry.Olbia

Is San Teodoro worth visiting?
Yes, for a long white beach, lagoons and boats to Tavolara, with an easy drive from Olbia. It is a beach resort, so it is busy and lively in summer and quiet in winter.
When is the best time to visit San Teodoro?
June and September give warm water with lighter crowds than July and August. May has pleasant weather, but the sea is cooler and some places are still opening. Many places close from late October.
Do you need a car in San Teodoro?
It helps. You can walk in town and take summer buses along the coast, but a car gives access to quieter beaches. Parking at busy beaches can be tight in July and August.
How far is San Teodoro from Olbia airport?
About half an hour by road, longer in summer traffic. Book a rental car or a transfer ahead in the peak months, and allow for slow coast roads.
Can you visit Tavolara from San Teodoro?
Yes, by boat from the nearby ports, in season. The sea around the island is protected, so follow the marine reserve rules, and book a boat you can change if the weather turns.
