Manarola is one of the five villages of Cinque Terre, on the Ligurian coast of northwest Italy. Its narrow houses in pink, ochre and yellow stack up a rock above a small harbor. The station sits at the foot of the village, so you reach the lanes on foot, and the lanes climb steeply from the water, so expect stairs. The village is small, and most of a visit is spent walking its lanes and looking out over the sea.
Come for a short coastal trip built around walking, swimming, seafood and the local wines grown on the terraced slopes above town. Manarola also works as a base for the coast path and the regional trains that link the five villages. Spring and early autumn are usually more comfortable for walking, while summer is busiest. Plan at least one full day here, and two if you want to walk between villages.

- Reach the sunset viewpoint an hour earlyThe classic photo of the village is taken from the cliff path outside it, and people line up at sunset. Go early for a spot, and bring a light for the walk back.
- Buy the Cinque Terre Card for the trailsThe Blue Trail and the Via dell'Amore require the Cinque Terre Trekking Card, sold at park infopoints in stations from La Spezia to Levanto and online.Cinque Terre National Park
- Book a village room months ahead or sleep in La SpeziaManarola has few rooms and they sell out. La Spezia is a short train ride away with more choice and lower prices.La Spezia
- Walk down from the stationThe station is just outside the village, and a short pedestrian tunnel leads down toward the harbor. Expect steps and slopes with luggage.
- Arrive by train, not by carParking is limited and the road is narrow. Most visitors take the regional train from La Spezia, which saves time and stress.

Is Manarola worth visiting?
Yes, for the views and the cliffside setting, but it is small and crowded in summer. Come early or late in the day, or in spring and autumn, to enjoy it.
Should you stay in Manarola or La Spezia?
Stay in Manarola for quiet evenings and a village feel, if you book well ahead. Stay in La Spezia for choice and lower prices, with a short train ride to the village.
How do you get to Manarola?
By regional train from La Spezia Centrale, about 8–10 minutes. The station is just outside the village, with a short walk down.
Where is the best sunset view in Manarola?
On the cliff path outside the village, where the pastel houses frame the sunset. Arrive early, since it fills up, and take care on the path in the dark.
Do you need a card to walk in Manarola?
Walking through the village does not, but the Blue Trail and the Via dell'Amore do require the Cinque Terre Trekking Card. Check the park's official page for the current rules.
