Ubud sits in the hills of central Bali, Indonesia, inland from the beach towns on the south coast. Travelers come for the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, for temples where Balinese Hinduism shapes daily life, and for rice terraces that step down the valley slopes. Nearby craft villages are known for woodcarving, painting and silverwork.

Ubud suits travelers who want a base for day trips and walks more than a beach holiday. Most sights are reachable by scooter, car or driver, and the village center is easy to walk on foot. The dry season, roughly April to October, brings fewer rain showers, which helps for terrace walks. Plan at least three days to see the main temples and terraces at an easy pace, and add more for slower mornings or a longer stay in the hills.

  3. Choose your base before you bookCentral Ubud suits first stays, the ridge and Penestanan suit views, and Tegallalang suits quiet and rice fields. Each trades walking for calm.Where to stay in Ubud

Ubud FAQ

Is Ubud worth visiting?

Yes, if you want temples, rice terraces, crafts and food more than a beach. It is busy and developed, so go early for the sights, and stay on the ridge or in a village if you want quiet.

How many days do you need in Ubud?

Three days covers the Monkey Forest, one terrace and temple day, and a slower day for the ridge walk and a class. Four or five lets you add East Bali or a rest day.

Is it better to stay in Ubud or Canggu?

Ubud for culture, hills and day trips; Canggu for surf, cafes and a beach scene. Many travelers split a stay between them, with Ubud first.

Do I need a scooter in Ubud?

Not in the center, where walking and short taxi rides work. A driver suits day trips, while a scooter is only sensible for experienced riders with a licence and cover.

When is the best time to visit Ubud?

May, June, September and October are dry and less crowded than July and August. The wet season runs roughly November to March, with green fields and afternoon showers.
