Gili Meno sits in the Gili Islands, a cluster of three islets off Lombok's northwest coast in Indonesia, where it is the middle and smallest. It is the quietest of the three and is usually compared with the party scene on Gili Trawangan. Visitors come for snorkeling in clear water, white natural sand and swimming beaches all around the island. A turtle sanctuary on the southeast coast is where baby turtles grow before they are released, and the bird park at Bird Pak Homestay holds rare birds from Indonesia and abroad.
The island has no motorized vehicles. You walk, ride a bicycle or take a cidomo, a horse-drawn carriage. Fast boats leave daily from Padang Bai, Serangan and Amed in Bali, with crossings of about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. From Bangsal harbor on Lombok, local boats run during daylight hours only. The dry season usually runs from May to October, and the monsoon season from November through April, with temperatures from 22 to 34 °C.
Gili Meno in five
- Walk the island in a morningGili Meno is small enough to circle on foot or by bicycle in a couple of hours, with a salt lake and a bird park inland. There are no motor vehicles; cidomo horse carts handle luggage.
- Snorkel the shallows with a guide's adviceSeagrass, small reef patches and an underwater sculpture installation sit close to shore. Currents run through the channels between the Gilis, so ask where the water is calm that day before you swim out.
- Check which island your fast boat servesMany fast boats from Bali stop at Gili Trawangan first, and some skip Gili Meno. Confirm the drop-off when you book, or plan a short hop by public boat from the next island. How to get to the Gilis
- Book dinner and carry cashRestaurants are few, close early and many take cash only. Ask your bungalow about dinner when you arrive, and bring rupiah from Bali or Lombok rather than counting on island ATMs.
- Go to Gili Trawangan for nightlife insteadGili Meno has almost no bar scene. If you want music, dive shops and a late dinner, stay on its livelier neighbor and visit Meno for the day.Gili Trawangan guide

Rules for Gili Meno, checked
- Indonesian drug laws are very strict. Drug possession and use are prohibited and can bring severe penalties, including the death penalty. Gili Meno has no police station, so problems are handled at the police station on Lombok.
- Check visa-free or visa-on-arrival rules with the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration (imigrasi.go.id) before you fly.
- Lombok is predominantly Muslim, and culture clashes between local people and Western visitors have happened. Respect local customs.

Read the guideGili Meno FAQ
Is Gili Meno worth visiting?
Yes if you want snorkeling, empty beaches and quiet evenings. It has the fewest restaurants and almost no nightlife of the three Gilis, so people who want a social scene usually pick Gili Trawangan or Gili Air.
How many days do you need on Gili Meno?
Two nights is enough for most people: one day to walk the island and snorkel, one to do nothing. Stay longer only if you plan to dive, read or work remotely. It also works as a half-day trip from a neighboring Gili.
Is Gili Meno better than Gili Air?
Quieter, yes; better depends on you. Gili Air has more cafés, yoga and a social harbor. Gili Meno suits couples and light sleepers who want silence after dark. Both have turtles and calm water.
Is there nightlife on Gili Meno?
Very little. A few beach bars play music on some evenings, but most places wind down early. For parties and live music, take a boat to Gili Trawangan and sleep back on Meno.
How do you get to Gili Meno from Bali?
Take a fast boat from Bali to the Gilis, then a short hop to Gili Meno if your boat does not stop there. Check the drop-off island before paying, and allow a buffer day before an international flight.
