Ayia Napa is a seaside town on the southeast coast of Cyprus, in the Famagusta District. Its beaches, including Nissi Beach and Makronissos Beach, are the reason many people come. The old village sits behind the waterfront and holds the Ayia Napa Monastery, an active church you can visit.
Beyond the town, Cape Greco has sea caves, cliffs and walking paths inside a protected national forest park. The town also has a busy nightlife scene, with bars and clubs concentrated in the centre and most active in summer. It suits beach holidays, group trips and families who want an easy base by the sea. The best season runs from late spring to early autumn, when the sea is warm enough for swimming. Plan three to five days for the beaches and a day trip to Cape Greco, or add more time to see other parts of Cyprus.
Ayia Napa in five
- Fly into Larnaca for the shortest transferAyia Napa has no airport. Larnaca is the nearest airport, roughly an hour by road, so book a transfer or car hire before you land.
- Hire a car for the spread-out coastCyprus drives on the left. The old town, the harbour, Nissi Beach and Cape Greco are not within walking distance of each other, so a car or taxi makes day trips easier.Getting around
- Dress modestly for the monasteryThe monastery in the old town is still an active church. Cover shoulders and knees before going in.
- Carry euros for tips and small purchasesCyprus uses the euro. Keep small notes and coins for tips, taxi fares and small kiosks.
- Set up an eSIM before the coast drivesCoverage can thin out on quieter coast roads and bays. Download offline maps before you leave the resort.Phones and eSIM

How do you get to Ayia Napa?
Fly into Larnaca, the nearest airport, then take a pre-booked transfer or hire car for the roughly one-hour drive. A car gives the most freedom for beaches and day trips.
Do you need a car in Ayia Napa?
Not for the centre alone, but yes for beaches such as Konnos and Cape Greco, which are outside town.
How many days do you need in Ayia Napa?
Three to five days covers the beaches, the old town and Cape Greco. A week suits a slower beach stay with day trips to Larnaca or Nicosia.
When is the best time to visit Ayia Napa?
April to May and September to October, when the sea is warm and the streets are calmer. July and August are the hottest and busiest months.
Is Ayia Napa or Paphos better?
