Little Cayman is one of the three Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea. It sits about 60 miles (96 km) northeast of East End, Grand Cayman, and about five miles (8 km) west of West End, Cayman Brac. The island is roughly 10 miles (16 km) long and a mile wide. Most of it is undeveloped, and nearly all of it sits at sea level. About 160 people lived here permanently in 2021, most of them expatriate workers.
Divers come for Bloody Bay on the north side, where the reef wall drops steeply and in places is nearly vertical. The island also has the largest red-footed booby colony in the Caribbean at Booby Pond Nature Reserve, and the only substantial population of the critically endangered Lesser Caymans iguana. Services are few, so plan food, cash and transport before you arrive. Cayman Airways flies daily from Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Winter, from late November to mid-March, is the coolest season, and the deeper south-side dive sites are usually dived then.

Rules for Little Cayman, checked
- Little Cayman is not an entry point: fly in through Grand Cayman or Cayman Brac, and boats must clear immigration and customs there first.
- The speed limit is 25 mph (40 km/h), and iguanas often sun on the roads, so drive slowly and watch for warning signs.
- Many dive-boat moorings have a four-hour maximum and are for dive boats only, so a private boat should not stay on one.
- Booby Pond is a Ramsar wetland of international importance, so use the viewing decks and leave the birds undisturbed.

How do you get to Little Cayman?
Take a Cayman Airways flight from Grand Cayman or Cayman Brac to Edward Bodden Airfield, since the island is not an entry point. Schedules change, so check Cayman Airways before you book.
Is Little Cayman good for diving?
Yes, it is best known for diving, with Bloody Bay and Jackson's Bight on the north side and deeper sites on the south side. The walls at Bloody Bay drop steeply, and the reefs have seahorses, sharks, sea turtles and rays.
Is Little Cayman worth visiting if you do not dive?
Yes for birds, iguanas and beaches such as Point of Sand, though services are limited. Booby Pond has the largest red-footed booby population in the Caribbean, and a boardwalk overlooks an iguana nesting area.
When is the best time to visit Little Cayman?
Late November to mid-March is the coolest period, with cold fronts from the north. The hottest and driest months run from mid-June to mid-September, and rain falls mid-April to June and mid-September to mid-October.
Is the tap water safe on Little Cayman?
At the resorts, yes, because they use reverse osmosis desalination. Other buildings use cistern or spring water, so ask your host before you drink from the tap.
How many days do you need on Little Cayman?
Booby Pond opens only a couple of hours on weekday afternoons, so plan that visit around it. Count your dive days and any Owen Island trip when you set your dates.
