Saskatoon is the largest city in Saskatchewan, on a bend of the South Saskatchewan River in the central part of the province. The city has nine river crossings, which is why it is called the City of Bridges. Its name comes from the saskatoon berry, a sweet violet-coloured serviceberry that grows in the region. The river splits the city into east and west. At River Landing downtown, the Remai Modern art museum holds over 8,000 works.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park, about 5 km north of the city, is a National Historic Site with about 6,000 years of First Nations history. Its archaeological sites include tipi rings, bison jumps and rock carvings. The Meewasin Valley Trail follows the river through the city and is used for cycling, jogging and walking in summer. Summer is the warmest and most pleasant time to visit, with average daytime highs peaking near 25.8 °C in late July and early August. Winters are very cold, with an all-time record low of −50 °C, so pack for extreme cold if you travel in winter.

How many days do you need in Albuquerque?
Two days cover Old Town, the Sandia tram and a green chile meal. Add a day for Santa Fe or Acoma Pueblo. During the balloon fiesta, plan an early morning at the launch field.
Is Albuquerque worth visiting?
Yes, if you like Southwest food, mountain views and Route 66. It works best as a base for Santa Fe, pueblos and the Sandias rather than as a long-stay city.
When is the best time to visit Albuquerque?
April to May and September to October. Early October brings the balloon fiesta and crowds; July and August are hot with monsoon storms.
Do you need a car in Albuquerque?
Yes for most trips. The city is spread out, and day trips to Santa Fe, Taos and pueblos are easier by car. Old Town and Nob Hill are walkable once you are there.
Is Albuquerque safe for tourists?
Visitors usually stick to Old Town, downtown and Nob Hill. Like any big city, stay alert at night and avoid leaving valuables in a parked car.
