Anegada is the British Virgin Islands' flat island and the only one in the group built from coral rather than volcanic rock. It lies north of Tortola and Virgin Gorda. You reach it by ferry from Virgin Gorda or by a short flight from Beef Island on Tortola. The highest point is only a few meters above sea level, so the view is mostly sky, salt ponds, dry scrub and long beaches. Reefs around the island have wrecked many ships over the centuries. The reefs, the shallow water and the lobster are the main reasons people go.
Anegada suits travelers who want quiet sand, snorkeling or diving, and a slow pace. A typical day is a morning on the beach, a drive around the island and dinner at a beach restaurant. Services are limited, so plan fuel, cash and dinner reservations ahead. The weather is driest from winter into spring, and the sea is usually calm then. Plan at least two nights, and three if you want a day on the reefs.

How many days do you need on Anegada?
Two nights give you time for the beaches and a slow day with no schedule. One day works only if you take the first ferry or flight and the last one back.
Is there good snorkeling on Anegada?
Yes. The reef off the north coast, known as Horseshoe Reef, has many shipwrecks. Snorkel and dive trips go out from operators on the island.
What is the lobster on Anegada like?
Spiny lobster is the island's known dish, and several restaurants serve it grilled or in a curry. Order it on your first evening.
When is hurricane season in Anegada?
The Atlantic hurricane season covers the summer and autumn, and storms are most likely in late summer and early autumn. Choose refundable bookings if you travel then.
